About Group Compliance
Group Compliance is looking for a dynamic individual to join the Group Financial Crime Compliance team. The core purpose of the Group Compliance department is to ensure that Discovery Group’s core purpose and reputation is protected. The immediate 3-year ambition of the Group Compliance department is to be the most respected and trusted compliance practice in the financial services sector. The department must be visible, trusted and respected.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
- Design and maintain Financial Crime policies, risk management and compliance programme, risk assessments and frameworks appropriate for implementation in the business align to regulatory obligations.
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining the compliance programme of the shared services company within Discovery.
- Managing regulatory changes,
- analyse changes and evaluate the impact on business and communicate to business.
- providing strategic guidance and support to business on the implementation of new and amended regulatory requirements.
- engage with business to draft comments on proposed Bills and amendments to Regulation.
- Providing guidance to senior management to ensure that business objectives is aligned to the regulatory framework and exposure profile of the business.
- Understanding and analysing the strategic impact of regulatory requirements on the business and make recommendation to business.
- Track progress on implementation of new and changed regulatory requirements.
- Engage with and influence a broad array of stakeholders such as the board(s), board committees, directors, senior management, and others.
- Implement appropriate monitoring of compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and report on the implementation of Financial Crime frameworks, i.e. RMCP and advise the business of deficiencies and required corrective actions.
- Engaging with business on any incidents and exposures and ensuring that these are dealt with in line with regulatory requirements.
- Establish appropriate governance structures to coordinate and drive financial crime compliance across the business.
- Provide input to the Regulatory training calendar and review or create training material relevant to stakeholder needs and regulatory requirements.
- Managing teams of financial crime compliance professionals.
- Provide tactical steer and optimise the use of resources to achieve departmental goals.
- Set objectives to improve overall performance.
- Ensuring strict adherence to compliance standards and methodology.
- Prepare business plans and budgets.
Education and Experience
- A Postgraduate degree in Law, in addition, ACAMS or equivalent will be advantageous
- Extensive knowledge of the financial crime regulatory requirements (FICA, POCA, POCDATARA, PRECCA, etc.) and best practice relating to compliance frameworks, processes, and operating models in the Long-term Insurance and Banking environments.
- Good knowledge of general corporate compliance requirements (Companies Act, Employment Equity Act, Labour Relations Act, etc.).
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a senior financial crime compliance management role.
- Experience in an operational compliance environment advantageous.
- Experience in overseeing the drafting and implementation of financial crime compliance frameworks, processes and operating models that are fit for purpose in respect of their different divisions.
- Experience and demonstratable excellence in analysing and interpreting data, identifying risks and gaps, and supporting the design of appropriate management actions across multiple disciplines as well as the impact to the Group.
- Experience in managing a team of senior managers and compliance professionals.
- Experience and a proven track-record of executing cross-disciplinary strategies to meet regulatory requirements.
- Extensive experience in applying the risk management and compliance programme.
- Extensive knowledge of the financial crime regulatory universe. Good interpretational skills and understanding of what is required to meet the intent of regulatory requirements considering the changing compliance landscape from rules based to risk based.
