Key Purpose of the Actuarial Analyst

The successful candidate will sit at the dynamic intersection of data, strategy, and storytelling; using rigorous actuarial thinking to craft compelling client, broker, and market-facing propositions. This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to play a key management role in a fast-paced environment, with significant exposure to senior leaders within the business.

 

Key outcomes may include but are not limited to:

    • The development, refinement and execution of key business strategies and technical marketing initiatives.
    • Presenting and leading discussions at relevant internal Exco forums as well as external C-suite client and broker engagements.
    • Key involvement in the launch, positioning and rollout of new products.
    • Collaboration with various teams within Corporate & Employee Benefits and the broader Discovery group on technical marketing initiatives and strategic projects.
    • Acting as a trusted translator between pricing, R&D, underwriting, sales and marketing teams – aligning risk insights with go-to-market strategy.
    • Support in preparing insights on key corporate clients linked to business performance, product utilisation, competitive landscape, insights derived from internal datasets (e.g. employee health trends, profitability, sentiment …), insights derived from desk research.
    • Prepare and communicate insights with respect to key industries in South Africa to drive understanding of key client groups.
    • Improving existing tools, models, messaging, and frameworks to enhance decision-making and market responsiveness.

 Personal Attributes and Skills

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate the following critical attributes and competencies:

    • Comfortable with change and a fast-paced work environment.
    • Ability to build relationships and network internally.

 Education and Experience

    • At least 2-3 years working experience, preferable in a Technical Marketing or R&D environment
    • Close to qualifying as an actuary (approaching final few exams)
    • High level of confidence with Microsoft Excel & Microsoft PowerPoint
    • SQL experience is an advantage
    • Knowledge of modelling packages such as SPSS, Python or R is an advantage
