About Group Tax
The Group Tax Department is responsible for the Tax Strategy of Discovery. This encompasses the following functions:
- Responsible for tax planning, compliance, reporting throughout the group
- Provides technical advice to business to ensure compliance with existing and new legislation
- Responsible for tax calculations, tax return submissions, tax accounting and reporting
- Engaging with and managing relationships with SARS
About the role
The successful candidate will be required to assist in meeting the tax compliance and reporting requirements for various companies within the group
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
- Resolve tax administration matters for the SA group
- Assist in the provision of advice regarding indirect tax matters (primarily VAT and PAYE) to the SA Group
- Assist in the review of VAT packs for the SA Group.
- Analyzing financial data, preparing informational reports, schedules and dashboards.
- Researching the tax consequences of business transactions to ensure compliance with the Income Tax Act, VAT Act and Tax Administration Act.
- Liase with business in terms of their tax related queries in order to address them as required.
- Assist in drafting responses to SARS, maintain a healthy relationship with them by responding to queries efficiently.
- Preparing of provisional, final income and deferred tax computations of various companies within the group.
- Accounting and reporting on taxes in terms of IFRS, preparing and recording of group wide tax accounting entries, preparing reconciliations of various tax accounts.
- Preparing and submission of various tax returns and resolving any related tax queries.
- Performing ad-hoc tasks and projects to support the Group Tax team as required.
Education and Experience
- Bcomm (Accounting)
- Post graduate studies in taxation beneficial
- Excellent Excel knowledge
- Knowledge, understanding and application of South African tax legislation
- Knowledge and understanding of IFRS
- 3-4 years’ experience in a tax department within a consulting firm or corporate, advantageous
