Key Purpose 

The Development Manager (Manager) will be a technical owner of a set of applications including managing relationships with Business Product owners. This role will ensure that business objectives are reflected in the technical processes which they manage. The Development Manager will join and manage a team of IT Specialists, specifically resourcing and scheduling in the SDLC processes. This role will also manage a set of projects (potentially across teams) ensuring that the applications remain adaptive to emerging client needs in its lifetime.

  

 

Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to:

The successful candidate will be required to perform but not limited to the following key outputs in respect of the Digital and Services (Dev Incubator) portfolio:

  • Delivery and Support of Specific Applications 
  • Client Relationship Management & Networking 
  • Ensuring alignment to business requirements 
  • Building trust with clients by displaying managerial competence 
  • Understanding business requirements, business strategy and direction, risks, and impact  o Participating in client forums (MANCO, planning/strategy sessions, reporting) 
  • Acting as consultant to internal and external clients 
  • Interfacing to other teams where required 
  • Project/Delivery Management  o Management of activities within the SDLC (Acting as process owner) 
  • Participating and enabling the business prioritisation process 
  • Scheduling and prioritising tasks and resources 
  • Capacity management  o Project budget tracking and management 
  • Taking ownership of production issues and driving to resolution 
  • Adherence to Quality, Standards, SLA’s and SDLC standards 
  • Human Capital Management 
  • Team management 
  • Capacity planning

Education and Experience

  • Tertiary Degree (B. Engineer, B. Com, BSC) 
  • 3-5 years’ experience in software development for large commercial entities or has demonstrated leadership capabilities 
  • 3-5 years people management experience 
  • Project Management experience 
  • Solution Architecture 
  • Software Development and Testing 
  • SDLC (Agile experience would be advantageous), ITIL (Incident, change, Release, Problem Management)
