About The Discovery Health - Global Team

 

Discovery Health - Global is a subsidiary of Discovery Health and strategically extends Discovery’s reach through delivery in key business activities:

Provision of Health insurance products underpinned by Vitality and Shared value principles, targeting growth across the African continent. Products are currently sold in: DRC, Mozambique, Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Mauritius.

 

Key Purpose:

 

To support line managers within the Discovery Health Global Team in the delivery of all HR services, and to ensure alignment with and implementation of central Discovery People initiatives.

 

 

 

Key Outputs:

 

The successful applicant will report to the Head of Operations of the Discovery Health Global Team.

 

 

 

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to the following job functions:

 

  1. Recruitment and Selection

 

  • Align and translate recruitment strategies and policies to meet business needs.
  • Ensure talent acquisition processes attract and retain high-caliber candidates aligned with organisational goals.

 

  1. Transformation and Employment Equity

 

  • Drive and coordinate the implementation of the Employment Equity strategy.
  • Integrate equity initiatives with other HR processes to ensure alignment with overall business strategy.
  • Ensure running the Diversity and Inclusion Committee Meetings
  • Draft motivations for EE steerco in collaboration with line leaders.

 

  1. Performance Management

 

  • Support leaders with performance management process across the business.
  • Support leaders in setting objectives, conducting reviews, and driving continuous improvement.

 

  1. Talent Management

 

  • Develop, facilitate and implement Talent Management Reviews and leadership development strategies, plans, and tools.
  • Ensure succession planning and career development initiatives are embedded throughout the business.

 

  1. Organisational Development

 

  • Lead sustainable organisational improvement initiatives focusing on culture, climate, morale, and performance.
  • Promote continuous improvement and employee engagement programs based on the gaps identified in business.

 

  1. Change Management

 

  • Facilitate and coordinate strategic change management initiatives and internal communication to support business transformation.
  • Ensure smooth adoption of new processes and structures.

 

  1. Payroll Advisory

 

  • Provide guidance on basic payroll issues and participate in payroll management processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements.

 

 

  1. Industrial Relations and Wellness
  • Manage employee and labor relations to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with labor legislation and resolve disputes effectively with the support of the IR team
  • Manage employee wellbeing matters and group risk partnership.

 

 

  1. Project Management
  • Plan and execute HR-related projects to support strategic objectives.
  • Monitor progress, manage risks, and deliver outcomes within agreed timelines.

 

  1. Tracking and Reporting
  • Develop and maintain reports to track key metrics across various areas and report back to leadership on a monthly basis
  • Provide accurate, timely data and insights to support decision-making and compliance requirements.

 

 

Education and Experience:

The following requirements are essential:

  • Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or related field (Essential)
  • 3-5 years’ HR generalist experience, with strong exposure to HR Business Partnering (Essential)
  • Proven experience in Talent Reviews, Employee Relations, and talent acquisition (Essential)
  • Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation (Essential)
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, operational environment (preferably financial services/insurance) (Essential)
  • Experience within Discovery or a similar high-performance, values-led organisation (Advantageous)
  • Exposure to EE reporting and transformation initiatives (Advantageous)
  • Experience supporting large operational environments (Advantageous)
