About the Discovery Internship Programme
An internship is a programme which provides on the job training for unemployed graduates who need to gain work experience. The Discovery Internship Programme was launched in 2006 and we have successfully developed and changed the lives of over 480 graduates, with an average permanent placement of 71% post an internship. You will be awarded an opportunity to join the smartest team in the industry and be prepared to enter any fast-paced work environment after your 12 months with Discovery.
Key Purpose of the role
The programme is designed to provide practical exposure and support to the Group Life Operations team by assisting with key administrative functions across multiple areas, including underwriting, GEP, lump sum claims, billing, disability management, and back-office administration. Interns will gain hands-on experience in operational processes, contributing to efficiency and accuracy while developing foundational knowledge of group life insurance practices.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to the following job functions:
- Prepare Broker Reports: Compile accurate reports using internal systems (SFE and Compass).
- Index Documentation: Ensure work items are correctly indexed on the appropriate system.
- Medical Requirements Coordination: Send requests for medical requirements to brokers or Service Consultants for members exceeding the free cover limit.
- Member Onboarding: Load member details onto the system and coordinate with the Smart Service team for nurse-completed medical documentation.
- Billing Management: Manage a billing portfolio of 30–40 Debit Order schemes or 25–35 EFT schemes (Standard Schemes).
- Work Pool Management: Monitor and manage work items in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Claims Assessment: Assist in assessing new notification claims under close supervision of the Team Leader/Operational Specialist.
- Claims Communication: Support the issuance of reminder communications for pending Global Education Protector (GEP) claims.
- Reporting: Assist in compiling reports related to Global Education Protector (GEP) claims.

Education and Experience
|
Specific Requirements:
- No previous internship and or graduate programme in any industry or government institution
- No work experience (Essential)
- Between the ages of 18 – 30 (Essential)
- You must be a South African Citizen by Birth or by naturalization before the 27th April 1994.
