Job Purpose
To own, govern and continuously evolve a business capability within Discovery Bank's SAP landscape while ensuring successful solution delivery, operational stability, regulatory compliance and business value realisation.The Specialist serves as the accountable owner for a functional capability, providing leadership across the solution lifecycle from business demand and roadmap planning through implementation, production support and continuous improvement. The role is responsible for aligning business objectives, customer outcomes, regulatory obligations and technology solutions while influencing stakeholders and driving sustainable capability growth.The Specialist acts as the recognised authority for their assigned capability and is accountable for ensuring successful delivery, stability, adoption, compliance and ongoing optimisation of that capability.
Key Outcomes may include but are not limited to:
Capability Ownership
Own and govern SAP business capabilities end-to-end, serving as the primary functional authority to ensure alignment with business strategy, customer outcomes, and operational objectives. Continuously improve capability maturity while maintaining accountability for business and operational performance.
Solution Design & Delivery
Lead the design, approval, and delivery of scalable, sustainable solutions that meet business, operational, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives and successfully execute roadmap priorities.
Roadmap & Demand Management
Own capability roadmap prioritisation by evaluating business opportunities, enhancement requests, and investment demands. Balance business value, risk, regulatory requirements, and operational stability to drive the capability’s ongoing evolution.
Operational Excellence & Production Support
Ensure production stability, service health, and operational effectiveness by driving continuous improvements and resolving root causes of major incidents. Strengthen support processes and reduce operational risk through sustainable, systemic enhancements.
Regulatory, Risk & Compliance
Ensure capability solutions comply with regulatory requirements, governance standards, and internal controls while maintaining audit readiness. Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risks and support the delivery of compliance-related initiatives.
Leadership & Capability Development
Develop and mentor specialists while fostering knowledge sharing, collaboration, and best practices across the domain. Build future capability leaders, strengthen SME expertise, and contribute to succession planning and organisational growth.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Drive innovation and optimisation by identifying opportunities to simplify, automate, and improve customer outcomes. Challenge outdated approaches and introduce best practices that support long-term capability and business improvement.
Stakeholder Management
Build trusted relationships with business and technology stakeholders, acting as a key advisor and decision-making partner. Aligns stakeholder groups, influence roadmap priorities and solution direction, and represent the capability in governance and planning forums.
Education and Experience
- National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Commerce or a related discipline.
- 5–10 years' experience in SAP functional consulting, solution design or enterprise systems delivery.
- Proven experience owning and supporting business capabilities in a complex environment.
- Experience in banking, financial services or regulated industries is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of SAP Banking Services, SAP S/4HANA, CRM or related SAP modules.
- Experience supporting audits, risk management and regulatory initiatives.
- Understanding of Agile, ITIL and enterprise delivery methodologies.
- SAP certifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated capability ownership and successful delivery experience preferred.
