About the Internal Communications team

The Internal Communications team forms part of the OD, Transformation & Change team within the Discovery People Centre of Excellence. Internal communications contribute significantly to employee engagement and the overall employee experience, while promoting the employer brand and employee value proposition.

 

Key Purpose

To deliver internal communication campaigns that are in line with the internal communications strategy and EVP for the larger Discovery community, the Internal Communications Consultant must collaborate closely with stakeholders from across the organisation, various business units and functions.


Along with writing, editing, and proofreading information for various media and platforms, this job also involves making sure the content is flawless, lucid, and consistent.

 

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on various channels to maximise engagement and return on investment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to:

 

Internal Communications:

  • Provide innovative concepts for company-wide communication initiatives.
  • Ensure that campaigns are in line with the internal communications framework as well as the company strategy and EVP.
  • Using briefs from various business divisions, create original copy for a range of communication mediums.
  • Edit and proofread content to make sure it adheres to Discovery's plain language policy and is consistent in terms of information, terminology, and style.
  • Maintain appropriate and uniform use of internal language, tone, and voice through all channels of internal communication.
  • Choose suitable communication media.
  • Develop and execute communication initiatives in accordance with the brief, timeline, and budget, and to the highest standards.
  • Coordinate communication and campaigns originating from various areas to effectively manage communication fatigue.
  • SME on communication channels and platforms to ensure a thorough understanding so as to maximise engagement and return on investment.
  • Play a lead role in the implementation and adoption of new platforms.

 

Brand alignment:

  • Thorough knowledge of the employer brand, internal brand application, and EVP.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to ensure that every component consistently meets the highest requirements.

 

General:

  • Monitor and reply to requests sent through the shared team email box.
  • Obtain key stakeholders' approval for all campaigns and communications, aligned to the CI and brand where applicable.
  • Ensure a comprehensive understanding of the client (from a variety of business areas) requirements and target audience.
  • Maintain and cultivate connections with businesses.
  • Employee intranet content updates and maintenance.
  • Provide support for reputation management, change management, awareness campaigns and activations for a variety of different business areas.

Education and Experience

  • Matric and writing skills training.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualification (B degree in marketing, communications, or English).
  • Three years+ marketing or public relations or corporate communications experience.
  • Strong communicator with ability to both write and present.
  • Proficient in MS Office (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Copilot).
  • Good understanding of communication, CRM and employee engagement platforms.

 

Advantageous

  • Good understanding of the HR function within a business.
  • Excellent portfolio with a proven track record of successfully leading communication efforts for a particular project, function or employee specific initiative.
  • Proven experience in the implementation of new technologies.
